Weitmann-RUWO SEW 52/300 Keyway Broaching Machine

This machine is designed for broaching keyways into bores, for example in:
• Gears
• Pulleys
• Clutch hubs
• Flywheels
• Other hubs and machine parts
The tool used is a keyway broach. It moves in a straight line through the bore. During the working stroke, it removes material; during the return stroke, the cutter is lifted from the workpiece, according to the original description, to prevent it from scraping across the machined surface.
Technical data of your SEW 52/300
The historical brochure found mentions a direct electric drive with reversing control, a freely adjustable stroke length, and automatic or manual feed adjustment for the SEW 52/300. In addition, 3 cutting depths are specified. The motor is rated at 220/380 V, 1.1 HP, and 1,000 min⁻¹.
The accessories available at the time are also interesting: The standard scope of supply included three broaching inserts with dimensions of 13 × 140 mm, 21 × 175 mm, and 31 × 240 mm. Special keyway broaches and reamers were available as optional accessories.
According to the same brochure, the larger sister machine, the SEW 52/500, could machine keyways up to 90 mm wide and up to 500 mm in length. Therefore, the "300" in your machine's model number most likely refers to the 300 mm version or broaching length. I would be more cautious about the "52" – I have not yet found a definitive explanation for this.

The large area on the right is the workpiece holder/indexing table. For example, a gear with its bore is aligned with the broaching bar and clamped into place.
The long horizontal mechanism is the support/broaching mechanism. In related Weitmann-RUWO machines, the operating manual explicitly describes a support that moves longitudinally on the machine bed and an indexing table for holding the workpiece.
