The BAC S15E 1018-10-LE is a high-performance, open cooling tower from the S1500E series manufactured by Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC).

Main Features of the S1500E Series

Cooling Capacity

An open evaporative cooling tower does not have a fixed, single kW cooling capacity because the actual performance depends entirely on the prevailing thermodynamic ambient conditions and the system temperatures.

This model is designed for maximum flow rates of up to 198 liters per second.

Under typical industrial or HVAC standard conditions, the nominal cooling capacity of this model is in the range of approximately 1,200 kW to 2,100 kW.

Why does the cooling capacity vary?

Wet-bulb temperature (outside air): The cooler and drier the ambient air, the more water can evaporate, and the higher the cooling capacity.

Water temperatures: The performance changes significantly depending on the inlet warm water temperature (e.g., 35 °C) and the outlet cold water temperature (e.g., 29 °C).

Air volume flow: According to the technical data from BAC, the S15E 1018-10 LE model actively moves 60.0 m³/s of air through three 11.0 kW fan motors.

If this air volume is reduced by a frequency converter (e.g., during nighttime operation or in winter), the cooling capacity decreases in a controlled manner.

Approach: This is the most important thermodynamic limit. It describes the difference between the desired cold water temperature and the physically determined wet-bulb temperature. The closer the cold water is cooled to the wet-bulb temperature (smaller approach), the less kW of cooling capacity the tower produces.
