It’s used primarily for calibrating, verifying and testing weighing instruments such as balances and scales. For example, the “Cylindrical Calibration Weight” line covers nominal masses from 1 g up to 10 000 g (10 kg) and this item falls at the top end of that range for the 10 kg value.
Because it’s manufactured to a high class (F1 / OIML F1) and often comes with traceable certification, it serves as a “standard” weight for checking or adjusting high‑capacity lab or industrial balance
