Overview: Stuart CB162 Hotplate Stirrer
The Stuart CB162 is an analogue hotplate stirrer combining heating and magnetic stirring capabilities. It has traditionally been used in lab settings for tasks requiring both uniform heating and effective mixing.
Key specifications include:
Plate material: Glass ceramic — highly resistant to chemicals and heat, easy to clean, with cooler edges to reduce burn risk.
Heating power: Approximately 500 W, capable of reaching a maximum plate temperature of about 450 °C.
Stirring speed: Variable from ~100 to 1,500 rpm, using strong magnetic coupling.
Capacity: Effective for stirring up to around 15 litres.
Safety features:
A flashing "Hot" warning light that stays on if the plate temperature exceeds 50 °C — even when turned off or unplugged.
Spill‑proof design and an independent safety circuit to prevent overheating.
Product Status & Successors
The CB162 model is now obsolete.
It has been officially replaced by the Undergrad UC152, a newer analogue hotplate stirrer with similar features.
The SB162, a similar model but with an aluminium‑silicon alloy plate, was replaced by US152
