The Datacolor 500 is a device representing a spectrophotometer that measures, calculates, and expresses color in a precise and objective manner, making it possible for color to be communicated and reproduced accurately. The spectrophotometer can measure a wide range of materials, including synthetic or natural fabrics, liquids, plastics, paper, metal, painted substrates, and, in some cases, multi-colored materials. In industries such as textiles and apparel, spectrophotometers enable companies to define color standards and tolerances, allowing supplier samples to be compared and measured against these standards. Spectrophotometers measure the wavelengths of light absorbed and reflected by a color sample and then quantitatively convert this data into color values that can be interpreted by color management software.
